If he were still around today, he would still be doing the same things and helping CCMP Capital grow. He took his role as president and chief executive officer with the utmost respect. He felt it was a true honor to have the job and there was a certain way to conduct business.

This was all taught to him in his schooling from Boston College and Columbia Business School, where he earned his master’s degree. While in school, he was always hitting the books, studying hard, and never satisfied. They always say that one of the worst things in life is when you become too comfortable in a position. You tend to fall down some dangerous paths.

That never happened with Stephen Murray. He always kept his eye on the prize and focused on the present and the future. He knew if he put his time in, studied long hours, and did well, he could go places.

Stephen Murray certainly went places, made friends, and influenced a lot of people in the most positive of ways. As a philanthropist, he made sure to give back to Boston College. After all, that was the school that started it all for him and he was someone that remained humble despite his success as a private equity investor.

A lot of kids need a role model and someone to look up to, so they know that all of the extra time they are putting in is worth it. That role model was Stephen Murray. They could look at him and see what a Boston College education can get you and what staying in school and getting your degree can get you.

When it came to the Make-A-Wish foundation, Stephen Murray always took the time to give back to them. He knew what a worthy cause that was and how important it was and all of the good work they were doing.

Stephen also served on many boards. He never liked to sit still for too long. He was always moving, changing things up, and looking for the next big thing all while remaining the same nice guy that people could count on and trust.
